The Jal Jeevan Mission has recorded a very large increase in rural household tap connections. That is a real achievement and one of the fastest infrastructure rollouts anywhere.
A connection reported as functional and a household that gets water daily are different measurements, and the gap between them varies by season and by depth of the local groundwater table. Reading connection data next to reservoir storage and groundwater extraction gives a truer picture than either alone.
